What is Heady Virtual Reality? Heady is a new kind of arcade… Virtual reality, or VR for short, is the most immersive way to play games, watch movies, or create digital art. When you’re in VR, you are visually inside the game. The images are stunning, and the audio is crisp. It’s easy to forget you’re in a virtual reality. This new and exciting technology allows you to do or be just about anybody or anything. You could travel to faraway places that take your breath away, or you could choose to embody a huge monster and destroy a few buildings. Or you and your friends could team up in VR and shoot your way through the zombie apocalypse! Whatever you want to do, it’s totally up to you. Heady Virtual Reality was created in Bellingham, Washington by Zach Brown in the summer of 2018. His intention with Heady VR is to have fun with the technology and, at the same time, to explore its many applications and possibilities in not only entertainment but art, engineering, health care, and more.

After studying Reiki in my home-state of Minnesota, I wanted to have more training in health-promoting modalities. Massage Therapy seemed like the natural step forward. My work involves deep listening with slow, focused, and meditative treatment to allow for relaxation. What makes Mallard Ice Cream so marvelous? Every day people tell us we make the best ice cream they’ve ever tasted. We think it’s because we make it right here in our shop, in salt and ice churns five gallons at a time. Over an hour of human time goes into each batch. We taste as we go and adjust at every step to get the best out of the ingredients. We believe intensity of flavor makes the very best ice cream, so we use a touch of organic cane sugar, a high butter fat mix, and generous portions of high-quality, real food ingredients. Mallard is also renowned for being a great place to work. We embrace the idea of work having more meaning than just a job. We respect one another and our customers. We understand the power of positive relationships, and that what we do affects others. We give back to our community (see the FAQ for how to request donations), not only in donations but in ideas, alternative models of business and by aiming to create positive change. Fresh, by hand, with love.
Our Vision Dedicated to the highest standards, we source and use the best ingredients available and spend hours researching and experimenting with our process, always working towards perfection. At the end of the day, we’re not business people who manufacture chocolate; we’re chocolatiers who have made a lifelong commitment to quality, and the business is something along for the ride. The result is not just a treat but a total chocolate experience. We deeply value our connection to the community and the opportunity to gratefully serve generations of loyal customers. At Chocolate Necessities, we are proud to say that here you can taste the love. Our History Chocolate Necessities is one of the original artisan chocolate companies in the United States, founded in 1986 by Kevin Buck and Mark Pantly. The search for chocolate began with a trip to Canada where Kevin experienced Callebaut, the leading chocolate maker. This brought up compelling questions like, “Why can’t we (in the US) have this amazing chocolate?” And, “How can I source only quality chocolate with no compromises?” Intrigue lead the way in learning how to ask the right questions. Many owners were not willing to share their hard earned information, but the right questions seemed vital to achieving the next level of industry insider truth. We have two locations and a chocolatier (Sarah) on staff as well as over 10 other employees. Over the years, Kevin has dedicated hours to researching and tasting chocolate from around the world. The milk chocolate we use today has 43% cocoa solids and the semi-sweet chocolate has 54.5% cocoa solids. Equally important to Kevin was the amount of the cocoa butter to ensure that the chocolate melts properly as only great chocolate does. Kevin’s attention to the ingredients has raised the bar for our customers again and again. Our Team Everyone at Chocolate Necessities is passionate about making the best chocolates possible. It is our utmost pleasure to share our love of chocolate with you! We have worked hard to create a respectful, trusting, positive environment that helps us produce superb products year after year. Serving Bellingham, Washington, we welcome you to stop by both locations to see the operation first hand and to taste and learn more about the chocolate we have come to respect. We look forward to meeting you!
Play contributes to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development, and if the play is open ended, imaginative, and creative it has the greatest impact on the child’s growth. This belief guides our choices in the toys we carry, which is why you will find simple, basic toys that actually require the child to be fully engaged to enjoy them. Many of our toys are made of natural materials, especially those for young children. This is for health and safety concerns as well as environmental and aesthetic values. Wooden blocks just feel better than their plastic counterparts! We strongly believe that play is important for all ages. George Bernard Shaw said “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” This is why we offer so many items for older kids and adults. It is so great to see an elderly customer put on one of our adult sized goofy hats and let us take a photo, or watch tweens and teens playing dress up in the store or playing games at our game demo tables. Often parents are very surprised to see that their 14 year old is not too old for toys! We also carry puzzles, games and brainteasers that are great for grandmas and grandpas that want to exercise their brains and keep them sharp, but be warned that the grandchild may win! By providing a cheerful and welcoming space with interactive displays, we encourage our customers to linger and try out the toys and perhaps run into their neighbors. Our workshops, kids club activities, and special events add to this sense of community, and new friendships have blossomed as a result of them! We are committed to our greater community and contribute to over 60 non profit groups each year that benefit children, families, and the elderly. We have also enjoyed visiting local school classrooms and playing games with kids to promote our belief of the importance of play.

It was a novel concept that the owner, Ron Miller, had seen in Alaska and thought might be a hit in Bellingham. He named the shop after his beloved rat-terrier, Bailey. Ron decided to retire in 2015 and enjoys riding his motorcycle and taking his RV on spur of the moment trips around the states. When Ron retired, it was taken over by Bellingham-local Brent Ahrens who had been in the pet industry since 2009. In the past 3 years, Bailey’s has received new custom built wash bays, 2 full time groomers, and a growing retail selection. The future of Bailey’s is a goal to be a neighborhood pet supply for the Birchwood, Columbia, and Cornwall neighborhoods, in addition to customers from all over the county who are looking for great service and quality products. This will be shown in a name change from “Bailey’s Bath House” to “Bailey’s Neighborhood Pet” and will be seen inside with a wide variety of high quality offerings for discerning pet parents. If it’s been a while since you have been in – come see whats new!

Who is Simmering Tava? At the Heart of Simmering Tava is Rajat Damani and his mother Tara Damani. Tara grew up in Calcutta, India and is known among friends, family and community for her addictive cooking. She is very often requested to make her signature recipes of ‘Bhel/Papri Chat and Masala Muri” whether she is hosting or visiting friends and family. She grew up in a city that is popular for the variety of Indian cuisines available and her recipes are a varied collection from her mother’s cooking (her mother Hiraben was a most excellent cook and she was very well traveled), her experiences of the street foods of Calcutta, her multicultural friends (India is a country of many cultures and cuisines densely packed together) and her natural ability to create new dishes from observations and inspirations Having grown up eating very wholesome, perfectly spiced and eclectic meals that Tara made, Rajat very quickly realized that he missed that immensely when he moved to Georgia, USA for University from Calcutta, India. His attempts to recreate the food he missed, he started to play in the kitchen himself often calling home for recipes and ideas. Since then he decided he was most interested in food and followed his passion and has worked at many excellent restaurants, catering companies and at a specialty food distributorship. This journey has allowed him to be exposed to an amazing variety of cuisines and cultures that fed is very curious nature. Better Ingredients make Better Food which makes a Better Person One of things that is perfectly clear: “Better Ingredients make Better Food which makes a Better Person.” That is why Rajat’s focus is always on finding and using local, natural and organic ingredients. “Better Ingredients make Better Food which makes a Better Person.” That is why Rajat’s focus is always on finding and using local, natural and organic ingredients. Our digital cards will be available soon. In the meantime, swing by one of our locations and buy a standard gift card anytime. We have great holiday discounts available right now! Today I came to the Bean Stop for the first time to grab an iced drink for some errands and I wasn’t expecting anything other than a typical drive up coffee stand but this place definitely exceeds expectations. The first thing I noticed was that you can get any size drink anywhere from an 8 ounce to a 32 ounce, this is awesome for me on days that I either want just a sip or need that big gulp sized coffee for finals. The barista was super nice, and the coffee is very well priced. I got a 24 ounce, iced London fog and it is for sure one of the better ones I’ve had. I always order a London Fog from new places because it’s simple, and difficult to get wrong. They use high quality tea and it was more flavorful than a lot of places that I’ve ordered the same thing from. This might just be my new coffee stop. — Jacqueline W.
Bantam will be opening soon! Read the article HERE. A secret’s only a secret as long as you keep it. Once you tell someone it loses all its power–for good or for ill–like that, it’s just another piece of information. But a real mystery can’t be solved, not completely. It’s always just out of reach, like a light around the corner; you might catch a glimpse of what it reveals, feel its warmth, but you can’t know the heart of it, not really. That’s what gives it value: It can’t be cracked, it’s bigger than you and me, bigger than everything we know… This deep in the game, pal, I’ll take mystery every time. fgfugfyugy .
